Standing on the Promises of God

Text: Numbers 23:19

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”

message:

God has promised to be with us always on this life journey.
“…lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” – Matthew 28:20

But sometimes our hearts falter. Temptations come, trials hit, and what we see around us can make us doubt. In those moments, we must intentionally choose to stand on God’s promises, because He never fails.

The Bible is full of men and women who stood on God’s word and saw victory:

  1. Abraham – God promised him a son in his old age. It looked impossible and took years. But _“Who against hope believed in hope. Romans 4:18 . He held on, and Isaac was born. God honored His word.
  2. Rahab – A woman with a broken past. Yet she believed the promise of protection spoken by the spies – Joshua 2:12-13 . Because she stood on that word, she and her family were saved when Jericho fell.
  3. David – As a young shepherd, God promised through Samuel that he would be king – 1 Samuel 16:13 . He faced rejection, war, and hiding in caves. But he kept declaring God’s promises as we read in the Psalms. In God’s time, the promise came to pass.
  4. Mary – When the angel told her she would bear the Savior, it made no natural sense – Luke 1:38. Her response was, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” She stood on God’s word, and the promise changed the world.

God Himself said, “..I will hasten my word to perform it.” – Jeremiah 1:12.
He even honors His word above His name – “…for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” – Psalm 138:2 .

Great men and women in Scripture did not see the promise first. They believed first. And God came through.

When we persistently confess and hold on to His promises, we move the hand of God. Why? Because “…God, that cannot lie…” – Titus 1:2 . What He has said, He will do.

No matter what you are facing today, don’t let your heart faint. Temptations, delays, and battles will come. But the anchor for your soul is the promise of God. Stand on it. Speak it. Believe it.

Just as He did not fail Abraham, Rahab, David, or Mary, He will not fail you. Your season of waiting is not a season of denial. It is a season for God to show that He is faithful.

Prayer:

  1. Father, give me grace to stand on Your promises. In every trial and temptation, help me to hold on and not give up. Let Your word be my anchor in Jesus’ name.
  2. Lord, fulfill every word You have spoken concerning me. Just as You came through for Abraham, David, and Mary, come through for me. Let my life be a testimony that You are a God that cannot lie. Amen.
