DILIGENCE IN FAITH

Text: Hebrews 11:6

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Message

Considering Faith That Pleased God (Hebrews 11:4-6), the author writes of DILIGENCE IN FAITH in “Living By Faith” (Believers Bookshelf Inc, 1992, p. 64),

“In the fifth place, God-pleasing faith is a thing to be diligent in.  There must be a heart purpose.  It is not a casual, or incidental, or partial thing; it is constant, consistent, and comprehensive.  We are often tempted to try and live in faith with regard to selected circumstances, problems, or areas of our lives.  But that will not do!  It is the total life that God is interested in, everything: marriage as well as money, work as well as wants, prosperity as well as pains, death as well as life.  The heart of the matter is the heart – where is it turned?  Repeatedly, in Psalm 57:7, 108:1, and 112:7, the declaration is: My heart is fixed upon God.  The one whose heart wavers like the sea receives nothing from the Lord (James 1:6-8).  Let the heart be fixed upon God alone and in sincerity.  There is no room to trust in God plus self, or family, or employer, or prophet (so-called), or pastor, or “juju”.  May we receive the grace to take our place by the side of David of old:

“‘Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.  They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright’ (Psalm 20:7-8).

“… Let us remember that this faith [examples of Abel and Enoch] must be one that God Himself can testify of, without it we cannot please Him, it may work out differently in individual lives, God rewards it, and we are to be diligent in it with a fixed heart.”

Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that *diligently* seek him.”

May our faith in Him be that of the diligent in Jesus name.

Amen.
