Face Your Fears

Text: 2 Timothy 1:7

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Message

In ordinary day to day English Language construct, fear is, an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm.

Fear is being afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or harmful.

In Our today’s passage Apostle Paul was writing to encourage his spiritual son, Timothy to face his fears head-on.

Paul calls young Timothy to follow his example of fearlessness in suffering and faithfulness in ministry (2 Timothy 1:1–2:7).

The apostle’s words in 2 Timothy 1:7 also offer timely encouragement for fearful saints. So is 2 Timothy 1 that teaches that “the spirit of fear” (2 Timothy 1:7) does not come from God and that we should not be ashamed of our testimony of Jesus Christ. Paul in 2 Timothy 1:11

testifies that Jesus Christ called him to preach the gospel.

A parallel studies of today’s verse sees some regarding the spirit of fear as equal to”timidity”, “fearfulness”, “fearsomeness”or shyness”, and sound mind as “self-control”, being “sensible” and of “sound judgment”.

No matter the rendition, one thing is clear. It is that, fear is fear, bad, a destroyer and a weapon aimed at making us end in defeat. No wonder that fear is a torment. It is opposed to love and faith in God.

Avoiding your fears often fuel anxiety. Instead, be daring to confront your fears gradually and systematically. Truth is the more you expose yourself to what scares you, the less power it will have over you!

One peek into the dictionary and you will discover that the definition of a sound mind is the “state of a man’s mind which is adequate to reason and comes to a judgment upon ordinary subjects, like other rational men.”

Remember, avoidance often fuels anxiety. It’s natural to want to shy away from things that make us uncomfortable, but facing them head-on is where true growth and peace reside.

Take small steps, breathe deeply, and know that every effort you make to confront your fears brings you closer to a brighter, more resilient version of yourself.

Your fear is like someone out there who is busy discussing the old you because they no longer have access to the new you.

Also, fear is like sitting in a table that speaks bad about anyone. Because when you stand up and leave the table, you are the next topic.

Furthermore fear is like those who steal for you. They can steal from you too.

Beware of those who run that the earth may die.

Truth is if you are serious about changing your life, you will find a way. And if not you will find an excuse. Sadly

excuses make today easier, but tomorrow harder. But, discipline makes today harder, but tomorrow easier.

Be disciplined and wise never to confuse motion and progress. A rocking horse may keep moving, but it doesn’t make any real progress. Similarly, in life, it’s essential to distinguish between being busy and actually achieving meaningful goals.

Fear will keep you busy but doing nothing tangible or meaningful. Focus on actions that propel you forward, rather than simply keeping you occupied.

Are you burdened with loads of fears?

Take it to Jesus now!

May the Lord help us to walk in love, power and the sound mind that He have given us.

I rebuke the spirit of fear and all that it brings against us to cause defeat.

We will succeed in Jesus Name.
