Text: Exodus 22:18
“Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.”
Message
The “witch” (KJV) or “medium” (RSV) of Endor first appears at 1 Samuel 28:7.39; “Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek out for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “Behold, there is a medium at Endor.” (RSV)
Very broadly speaking, a witch is a person who employs magical entities, which may include powers he/she carries within her body, to harm other people.
Witches are malevolent being wishing evil or harm to another or others; showing ill will; ill-disposed; malicious: A witch embodies an unreasoning, instinctive evil that the Bible in Deuteronomy 18:10-11, warns, “Let no one be found among you who consigns a son or daughter to the fire, or who is an augur, a soothsayer, a diviner, a sorcerer, one who casts spells, or one who consults ghosts or familiar spirits, or one who inquires of the dead.
Exodus 22:18 says, “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.” The occupation of a witch is witchcraft.
What does the apostle Paul say about witchcraft? They seduce their victims, offering tainted doctrine for the truth, thus corrupting the church’s “pure and sincere devotion to Christ” ( 2 Corinthians 11:3).
From an anthropological perspective, then Paul perceives his rivals as “witches” and labels them as such with witchcraft accusations.
A female witch is also called an enchantress (supernatural), a magician, sorcerer, or enchanter, while the male is called wizard.
The Origins of Witchcraft
Witchcraft can be traced back to ancient times, with depictions of witches found in various mythologies and folklore, from Roman gods to Celtic deities. In Europe, witchcraft became associated with the devil during the Middle Ages, particularly influenced by the spread of Christianity.
What powers do witches have?
It is commonly believed that witches use objects, words, and gestures to cause supernatural harm or that they simply have an innate power to do so.
In many African cultures, witches are believed to act unconsciously; unaware of the ill they cause, and they are driven by irrepressible urges to act malevolently. It is thus easy for those accused of witchcraft but who are not conscious of wishing anyone ill to assume that they unknowingly did what is attributed to them.
They use fertility potions and love charms to evil spells designed to kill their victim.
What do witches believe in? Most witches believe in a horned male god and a moon goddess.
What are the character traits of a witch?
Witches were jealous, vindictive, malevolent, and manipulative – in fact, had all the characteristics of the evil stepmother and witch of fairy tales. They were blamed for failed crops, miscarriages, mysterious illnesses and sudden deaths, and scapegoats for all the ills of a community.

Spiritually, witches are proud. Pride is the opposite of humility. Pride has been labelled the mother of all sins and has been deemed the devil’s most essential trait. No wonder witches as children of Satan have pride in their DNA.
Also, witches are under the feet of a genuine believer who partakes of all the powers found in Jesus Christ.
The sin of an unrepentant witch can be likened to an unforgivable sin-the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, which is to insult or reject the work that Jesus Christ has come to do. So the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, or the unforgivable sin, is the rejection of Christ.
Now, and ever, every other sin can be forgiven if you repent of it. But if you reject Jesus Christ, the Bible says, “How can you escape if you neglect so great a salvation?”

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. So, help me God, in Jesus name. Amen
