Having The Mind Of God’s Best Friend
Text: Genesis 39:9b
“….How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
Message
The minds of God’s best friends is anchored on love for God. This is not to say they first love God. No, it is God that first loved them.
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”.
Also, Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.
John 3:17 went further, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved”.
And a warning if we neglect His sacrifice in John 3:18, “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God”.
What are the minds of God’s best friends?
These include they responding and accepting His love for them. They have and demonstrate His mind of love. They obey and in faith please Him. They live in Holiness for God is holy. They give sacrificially and not caring if recognized. They do things as He would and as if His there watching them even in the dark. They are not selfish so have passions for lost souls.
Come to think of it, if God has some people in some generations as best friends, it follows that He has other categories of friends that are just good or better. There is always the room for the good to become better and the better to become the best.
What the good or better need to become the best is to be ready to add little more of sacrifices and dying to self in order to be upgraded in status and level to God’s best friend.
Also, aside from being God’s enemy and Satan’s best friend if we already are, what are we doing to move to God side of the divide; appropriating His love?
What are we doing to upgrade the level of our relationship with God to that of best friend which should be the ultimate aim for every believer.
We must not be like some who says, “All I want is heaven, even if I will be a gateman or messenger there”.
I don’t know if you, I refuse to be gateman or messenger. The mansions are mine.
I heard you saying me too. Great, we must not just desire. We must do the needful. Let your actions be in tandem with your heart. It should be the daily 24/7 demonstration of your responding love to God.
Abraham was first a man of obedience, faith, ready to sacrifice anything to God no matter the value, and a good family man. It was such that God in the context of our text was so sure of him instructing his children and family of the ways of the Lord. Can God be that proud of us that we self instructed in Him, not to talk of our children and family?
I submit that if we must become God’s best friend in our generation we should turn a new leaf. Let’s respond to His love.
This you do in demonstrating your interest and actions in doing kingdom assignments which is majorly evangelism.
We should be concerned with the plight of the men and women in the world who are lost in sins, and are headed to a doomed eternity. We should show compassion towards them and give them the message of salvation through Christ.
We must be passionate and urgent with the task of reaching as many as possibly as we can before time runs out on them. This is the reason God left us on earth after saving us from sin and death.
Remember that becoming God’s best friend may be difficult but it is not impossible. It is possible. It is doable if only you take a decision today to become God’s best friend and ask the Holy Spirit to help you walk in that line in Jesus Name. The journey begins with accepting Jesus as personal Lord, Saviour and Master and growing in maturity and grace.
Don’t just as many do accept Jesus as your Saviour only. We are also commanded to accept him as our Lord and Master.
May God help us in the name of Jesus Christ
Amen.
Shalom
