A Devoted Family in A Contemporary World

Text: Acts 10:1-2

“There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.”

Message

Acts 10:1-4, 24, and Luke 12:48 both offer spiritual and practical guidance for families’ devotion to God in a contemporary world. So is Genesis 18:19, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”

 

From these Scriptures, we observe that there are basic requirements for families to be regarded as devoted to God.

 

Key and foundation is having Jesus in one’s life, which dispels all fears. So Knowing God ensures divine intervention in battles, for it is God who fights battles on behalf of his people. Fearlessness is a sine quo non.

 

Knowing and believing in God is closely followed by having a strong family life with strength from above devoid of doubt or fear on any issue.

 

A devoted family will both be committed to God and others as they are dedicated to pleasing God and being blessings to others, driven by intentional and relational efforts from both spouses, their children, and home. They have and exercise genuine desire to assist others, especially fellow believers (Galatians 6:10).

 

A genuinely devoted family is truly addicted to gospel propagation – Evangelism, which is the winning of souls into Gods kingdom, which is of utmost importance to God.

 

In a devoted family, there is equality at home. All are treated justly and equally as equal individuals under one’s roof with God as the head of the home.

 

Devoted Family possess specific traits intrinsic to their commitment as a devoted family. These include being God-Fearing. Such families live in reverence of God, aware of their identity in Him (Romans 12:1-2).

 

Their governance structure is unified leadership: The man ensures family welfare by including his wife in decisions and activities.

 

They have seal to bless others. This is a strong inclination to assist and bless people outside the household.

 

They are strongly committed to prayers. They regularly engage collectively in prayers and supplications to bring each member closer to Christ.

 

They have good report and reputation both before God and outsiders, acknowledging the family’s good deeds.

 

They are humble and respectful. Mutual respect between husband and wife is a hallmark, alongside obedient and service-oriented children.

 

There are several blessings to a devoted family. These include having their homemade by God using the woman in particular.

 

God hears and recognizes the prayers and supplications of devoted families, and God’s direction is evidently present in their lives.

 

A devoted family have supportive community as God surrounds them with the right people.

 

Nothing in the dark world or secret, even God’s secret plans, is hidden from them as God regularly reveals issues to them.

 

Finally, a devoted family has spiritual fulfilment and experiences. They experience the Holy Spirit’s and the benefit of their individual and collective salvation.
