What Is Godliness?
Text: John 10:14
“I am the good shepherd, I know my own and my own know me. “
Message
I am so excited by Jesus Christ, I woke up midnight thinking about the Acts of the Apostles, 1 Timothy and Jesus Christ. I found out that Jesus Christ is the mystery of godliness, and that godliness in its simplest and even deepest definition is nothing other than knowing and doing the will of God.
Godliness is a rule of behaviour, It is a way of life. It is knowing and doing things that pleases God, It is behaving in the pattern fitting into how members of the household of faith in God through Jesus Christ ought and should behave.
“If I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.
Great indeed, we confess the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.”
1 Timothy 3:15-16 ESV
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life, No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my father also. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.”
John 14:6-11 ESV
In John 10:27, Jesus uses the metaphor of a shepherd and his flock to illustrate the relationship between Himself and those who believe in Him. Their ability to discern and follow Jesus’ voice, even amidst other distracting voices, is a key aspect of their spiritual life and an assurance of salvation: In the broader passage of John 10:27-30, Jesus assures His followers that He gives them eternal life, and no one can snatch them from His hand or the hand of His Father. Some interpretations suggest that spiritual understanding is necessary to “hear” and follow Christ’s voice effectively, akin to a climber, acclimatizing to survive.
May we all come to the knowledge knowing Jesus Christ as key to opening the door to Godliness in all that we do.
Amen.
