MESSAGE<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua’s declaration comes at the close of his life, addressed to the assembled tribes of Israel at Shechem after decades of conquest and settlement in the Promised Land. His words are not a private resolution but a public, covenantal statement with explicit household scope: “as for me and my house.” This distinction matters \u2014 Joshua understood spiritual leadership as extending beyond personal conviction into deliberate household direction, refusing to let his family’s spiritual trajectory be determined by cultural drift or majority consensus among the surrounding nations.The context of this declaration is significant. Israel had just entered a land saturated with competing gods \u2014 the gods their fathers served beyond the Euphrates, and the gods of the Amorites in whose land they now dwelt (Joshua 24:15). Joshua’s challenge was not abstract theology but a real, present choice between spiritual influences actively vying for the household’s allegiance. His declaration models something crucial for victorious family living: it requires intentional decision, not passive assumption, because competing influences are always present and rarely neutral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Old Testament offers a contrasting cautionary illustration in the household of Eli the priest (1 Samuel 2\u20134). Eli was a sincere man who served God faithfully in his priestly duties, yet Scripture records that his sons “made themselves vile” through corrupt and immoral behavior, and Eli’s response was passive rebuke without real correction \u2014 “he restrained them not” (1 Samuel 3:13). The consequences were catastrophic: both sons died in battle on the same day, the ark of God was captured by the Philistines, and Eli himself died upon hearing the news (1 Samuel 4:11\u201318). This account illustrates that personal faithfulness to God, while essential, is not automatically sufficient for household victory; deliberate, courageous spiritual leadership within the family is required, and its absence carries generational consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Testament illustration presents a positive contrast in the household of Cornelius, described as “a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house” (Acts 10:2). Cornelius’s household faith was not incidental; it produced tangible fruit \u2014 he gave alms generously and prayed to God always, and when Peter finally came to preach the gospel to him, “the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word,” including his gathered household and friends (Acts 10:44). Household spiritual leadership, deliberately cultivated over time, positioned an entire family and social circle to receive a historic outpouring of the Spirit, becoming the first recorded Gentile household to receive the gospel \u2014 a household ready because its patriarch had already established a pattern of devotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ephesians 5\u20136 provides Paul’s practical framework for victorious family living, describing mutual submission, sacrificial love between spouses modeled on Christ’s love for the church, and the raising of children “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4) rather than provoking them to wrath. This framework presumes that family relationships are not neutral zones exempt from spiritual warfare and kingdom priorities but are, in fact, primary arenas where the gospel’s power is meant to be demonstrated practically \u2014 in how spouses treat each other, how parents raise children, and how households collectively orient toward God.
Deuteronomy 6:6\u20137 establishes the pattern of intentional spiritual transmission within the family long before Joshua’s declaration: God’s commandments were to be taught diligently to children, discussed in the ordinary rhythms of daily life \u2014 “when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Victory in the family, biblically, is rarely accidental; it is cultivated through consistent, deliberate spiritual investment woven into daily life rather than confined to occasional religious observance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s important to recognize that victorious family living does not mean the absence of conflict, difficulty, or even prodigal seasons within a household. Even godly households in Scripture experienced significant struggle \u2014 Isaac and Rebekah’s household was marked by favoritism and deception between Jacob and Esau (Genesis 25:28; 27:1\u201329), yet God’s covenant purposes continued to advance despite genuine family dysfunction. Victory in the family is less about the absence of struggle and more about the household’s fundamental orientation toward God remaining intact and actively pursued despite struggle, rather than abandoned or neglected.
Practically, victorious family living requires the kind of deliberate declaration Joshua modeled \u2014 clearly establishing, and periodically reaffirming, the spiritual direction of the household rather than assuming it will simply happen. It requires the courageous correction Eli failed to provide, addressing sin and drift within the family directly rather than offering passive disapproval alone. It requires cultivating consistent spiritual rhythms, following Deuteronomy’s pattern of ordinary daily instruction rather than relegating faith to occasional formal moments. And it requires recognizing, as with Cornelius, that household faithfulness often becomes the very platform through which God extends grace to a wider circle of relationships beyond the immediate family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This truth is ultimately grounded in Christ, described as the head of the church as a husband is head of the wife (Ephesians 5:23), establishing the pattern of sacrificial, others-centered leadership that every household is called to reflect. Whatever the current condition of your family \u2014 struggling, thriving, or somewhere between \u2014 Joshua’s declaration remains a model available to every believer today: a deliberate choice, renewed as often as necessary, that as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Loneliness because you belong to Jesus Christ is the price you pay to build yourself up, and the greatest thing you can build is yourself in Him, with you decreasing and Him increasing in your life that His glory in you may be made manifest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Truth is, “The mind does not fear the truth first. It fears the life the truth will demand. That is why denial feels calm. It postpones a decision, not a consequence.” No wonder we get the wages of sin, which is death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Believers should understand that sometimes our prayers are answered but the answer is No!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In other word, “You cannot think your way into becoming the person only your actions can introduce. When the storm beats the tree, many birds fly away\u2014but the one that remains through the thunder is the one that truly calls it home.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Is sin not attractive to you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Sin keeps inviting you, “Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you\u2019ll be able to see further, for you are a magnet for success and opportunities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Beloved, all that ends in this world. You will soon discovered, albeit too late that all that gilliters are not gold, and that vanity upon vanity, is a life lived without Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Remember that one day you will wake up and do things for the last time without knowing it\u2019s the last time. The sleep or that going out or coming in, eating, fighting, quarrelling etc will look normal, yet will be the last time! Nothing extra ordinary except that you would have said good night on the earthly side and find yourself woke up on the otherside of the terrestrial. There you have welcome to your eternity in heaven or hell, on the right or left side of Jesus who you obeyed or betrayed, condemned, rejected and ignored when you had the opportunity to accept on earth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Unfortunately, you cannot and have not the luxury of a repeat journey! Then you will remember the saying that, “Most betrayals begin long before trust is broken. They begin the day curiosity ends. The moment someone believes they no longer need to understand you, they begin speaking to a memory instead of a person.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Accept and follow Jesus now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
