THE AUTHORITY OF THE NAME OF JESUS: HEAVEN\u2019S LEGAL POWER IN THE BELIEVER<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Text: Philippians 2:9\u201311<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTherefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MESSAG<\/em>E<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the kingdom of God, authority is not based on human strength, but on delegated power. One of the most significant revelations given to the Church is the authority vested in the name of Jesus Christ. This name is not a religious phrase; it is a legal, spiritual, and cosmic authority granted by God Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philippians 2:9 declares that God has \u201chighly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name.\u201d This means the name of Jesus is not merely one among many spiritual names; it is supreme, unrivaled, and universally authoritative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To understand the weight of this truth, we must see that Jesus did not receive this name by accident or tradition. It was given after His obedience unto death. Verse 8 preceding it says He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Authority in the kingdom is always connected to obedience and sacrifice, this is why Matthew 28:18 (NKJV) is critical: \u201cAll authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.\u201d Notice the word \u201call.\u201d Not partial authority. Not limited authority. Total authority. Heaven, earth, and everything beneath\u2014all under His dominion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the most remarkable truth is this: the Church has been invited into the use of this authority. Mark 16:17 (NKJV) says:
\u201cAnd these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons\u2026\u201d The authority is not in the believer\u2019s personality, background, or strength. It is in the name they carry. This means a believer standing in faith can confront spiritual opposition not from weakness but from delegated authority.
Acts 3:6 demonstrates this in action. Peter said to the lame man: \u201cSilver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The miracle was not in Peter\u2019s ability but in the authority of the name he invoked.
To understand this deeper, we must see that in the ancient world, a name represented authority, character, and legal identity. To act \u201cin the name of Jesus\u201d is to act under His jurisdiction, with His backing, and according to His will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is why prayer in the New Testament is consistently done \u201cin the name of Jesus.\u201d John 14:13\u201314 (NKJV) says: \u201cAnd whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.\u201d
This is not a magical formula. It is legal representation. It means the believer approaches God as one standing in Christ\u2019s authority, not personal merit.
Many believers struggle in prayer because they approach God based on feelings or personal righteousness. But the authority of the name of Jesus removes self from the equation and replaces it with Christ\u2019s finished work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A powerful example of authority in action is found in Acts 16:18, where Paul confronted a spirit of divination. The Scripture says: \u201cBut Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, \u2018I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.\u2019 And he came out that very hour.\u201d Notice there was no negotiation. There was command. The authority of the name produced immediate result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, authority must be understood and applied correctly. In Acts 19:13\u201316, some attempted to use the name of Jesus without relationship or revelation, and they failed. This shows that authority is not mechanical; it is relational and spiritual.
The name of Jesus works in the mouth of those who believe in the finished work of Christ and walk in alignment with His will. It is not a tool for manipulation; it is a covenant authority for obedience and victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philippians 2:10\u201311 reveals the scope of this authority: \u201cAt the name of Jesus every knee should bow\u2026 of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth.\u201d This includes every realm\u2014spiritual, physical, and unseen. No domain is exempt. The authority of Jesus is absolute.
This truth should reshape the believer\u2019s mindset. Fear loses relevance when authority is understood. Intimidation loses power when identity is revealed. Prayer becomes confident when legal standing is recognized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus Himself prepared His disciples for this reality in Luke 10:19 (NKJV): \u201cBehold, I give you the authority\u2026 over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.\u201d Notice the distinction: authority over power. Authority is higher than power. A police officer standing on a road may appear weaker than a speeding car, but authority can stop what strength cannot control. In the same way, the believer does not overcome darkness by intensity but by authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means every believer must grow in awareness of what has been entrusted to them. Spiritual maturity is not just emotional passion; it is revelation of delegated authority. When the name of Jesus is spoken in faith, heaven responds, hell recoils, and circumstances shift according to divine order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, the believer is not powerless, not voiceless, and not defenseless. They are authorized representatives of Christ on earth. To live below this reality is to ignore the privilege of redemption. To live in it is to walk in victory consistently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      St. Matthew 10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. St. Matthew 10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Loneliness because you belong to Jesus Christ is the price you pay to build yourself up, and the greatest thing you can build is yourself in Him, with you decreasing and Him increasing in your life that His glory in you may be made manifest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Truth is, “The mind does not fear the truth first. It fears the life the truth will demand. That is why denial feels calm. It postpones a decision, not a consequence.” No wonder we get the wages of sin, which is death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Believers should understand that sometimes our prayers are answered but the answer is No!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In other word, “You cannot think your way into becoming the person only your actions can introduce. When the storm beats the tree, many birds fly away\u2014but the one that remains through the thunder is the one that truly calls it home.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Is sin not attractive to you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Sin keeps inviting you, “Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you\u2019ll be able to see further, for you are a magnet for success and opportunities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Beloved, all that ends in this world. You will soon discovered, albeit too late that all that gilliters are not gold, and that vanity upon vanity, is a life lived without Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Remember that one day you will wake up and do things for the last time without knowing it\u2019s the last time. The sleep or that going out or coming in, eating, fighting, quarrelling etc will look normal, yet will be the last time! Nothing extra ordinary except that you would have said good night on the earthly side and find yourself woke up on the otherside of the terrestrial. There you have welcome to your eternity in heaven or hell, on the right or left side of Jesus who you obeyed or betrayed, condemned, rejected and ignored when you had the opportunity to accept on earth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Unfortunately, you cannot and have not the luxury of a repeat journey! Then you will remember the saying that, “Most betrayals begin long before trust is broken. They begin the day curiosity ends. The moment someone believes they no longer need to understand you, they begin speaking to a memory instead of a person.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Accept and follow Jesus now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
